Profit Analysis

The purpose of conducting profit analysis is to analyze the yearly and monthly profit by bike-share system so that this cost would be helpful for elementary instruction and short run decisions taken in the company.

Software and visualization tools used : Tableau

To conduct the profit analysis, analyze the number of passholder type and map the data with the date type. After performing mapping, form a bar chart or suitable mapping chart type for the data. We have used bar chart as well as line chart to come up with the profit number. The profit can be analyzed for per month, per year or per quarter.

Results:

Pass distribution per year

It can be observed from the graph that Year 2016 is the most profitable year as compared to Year 2017. The number of passes sold and used in Year 2016 are 98,135 while the number of passes used in Year 2017 are 84,297. Now, let’s observe monthly profit.

It can observed from the monthly pass distribution, that August was the most profitable month in Year 2016 and 24,153 in total passes were sold in August while September was the second most profitable. In Year 2017,  May was the most profitable month and 19,024 passes were sold in May. June was the second most profitable month in Year 2017. The yellow line corresponds to monthly pass. The red line corresponds to walk up pass and the blue line corresponds to flex pass.

Quarterly Distribution

It can be observed from the quarterly distribution that the count of monthly passes decreased at the end of Quarter 4 in Year 2016 and it drastically increased in Quarter 1 of Year 2017. The distribution of walk up and flex passes is fairly constant in all the four quarters. It can be concluded that most of the people switched to monthly pass in Year 2017.
